'Leanne Kingwell Brings it On Home...'

Fresh back from blowing them away at the Bon Scott Celebration Concert in W.A., Leanne Kingwell confirms her first Australian "Show Ya What" gig with her band for March 24, LIVE @ Crown in Melbourne.

Recently Leanne has performed a series of shows as guest vocalist with the original Angels band on the back of US radio success for her cover of the Angels' classic, Be With You.

At the Claremont Showground in Perth last weekend, Leanne again strutted her stuff with The Angels to a sellout crowd of 17,000 enthusiastic Oz Rock devotees who braved the 38 degree heat to also get down and dirty with Rose Tattoo, Screaming Jets, Party Boys, Dave Warner Band and a number of local acts.

"A black tee and tatts seemed to be a mandatory condition of entry so I knew this was gonna be my kind of gig," tells Leanne. "But when they all started to air-fist and sing-along with me I felt like some rock 'n' roll Cinderella. It just blew me out. They sure know how to make a gal feel welcome over there."

The concert raised money for a Bon Scott memorial statue to be erected In his hometown of Fremantle. The musician's charity, Support Act (founded by the late great Billy Thorpe) was also a major beneficiary.

Kingwell's Album 'Show Ya What' has received major critical and radio success in the US and now Aussie audiences will have a chance to catch her live with her band in a series of shows over the coming months.

"When Mark Evans invited me onstage to close out the Bon Scott concert I was the only chick up there jamming it out alongside John and Rick Brewster, Dave Evans, Chris Bailey, Dave Tice, Buzz Bidstrup and other great seminal Oz pub rockers. It made me feel like I'd been taken into the fold and got me hot to start gigging," Leanne says. "LIVE @ Crown Is a great venue to kick things off, they've just spent a fortune on new sound equipment. I've put together a kick butt band of seasoned and respected players to back me and I'm ready to rock 'n' roll."

'Leanne Kingwell Lines Up With The Angels'

Legendary Australian rock outfit, The Angels re-introduced Leanne Kingwell to her hometown Melbourne audience by inviting her onstage to front them for a couple of numbers at their Cherry Bar gig in AC/DC lane last night.

Kingwell, the first woman to front the band in their thirty-plus year history, blew the packed and enthusiastic room away with powerhouse renditions of The Angels standards, Be with You and Shadow Boxer.

"Leanne not only made an impression vocally, but also visually with her rock-chick sassiness," The Angels drummer Buzz Bidstrup said. "From my perspective behind the kit, it's a nice change from looking at John Brewster's butt."

Kingwell first saw The Angels live 7 years ago at The Palace In St Kilda. She was one of half a dozen girls in an audience of about 1500 guys who knew The Angels lyrics verbatim. "That night got me thinking about creating some kick-butt rock 'n' roll that girls would dig as much as guys," says Leanne. "It's such cool Zen to now be onstage with The Angels. They inspired me to make a chick record with balls."

Leanne's album, "Show Ya What" is receiving major mainstream and college airplay in the U.S.A. and was listed in both the Village Voice and Billboard's Critics Choice Top Ten Albums of 2006.

"When Leanne Kingwell got up to sing with the Angels it was a magic moment for everyone," the Cherry Bar's James 'the hound-dog' Young tells. "Leanne got to play with her heroes for the first time ever and the band was invigorated by sharing the stage with a young star obviously so thrilled to be part of such an unexpected collaboration. Leanne's vocals were perfect for the band's hard edge."

Kingwell will be onstage with The Angels when they headline The Bon Scott Memorial Concert at the Claremont Showground in Perth on the 25th of February. Rose Tattoo, Party Boys and Screaming Jets are also on the bill.

"Her fan base has expanded beyond the borders of Australia. Like the demand for the next Harry Potter book in the series, Leanne's albums have the same type of appeal for rock fans. Each album whets the international markets appetite for more of her music with rough edges, chunky fills, electrifying movements, and thriving vocals, which motivate and adrenalize. PBS Roadtrip Nation has selected Leanne KingwellÕs ÒBITEÓ from her New Tattoo album for use on their 2006 Roadtrip Nation series to be aired on Television Networks all across the USA starting in September.

Roadtrip Nation was started when some college grads, who had no idea what they wanted to do with their lives, decided to take a roadtrip to figure it out. They bought an old run-down 31-foot RV, painted it neon green, and hit the road for 3 months and 17,000 miles to explore how other individuals found their roads in life. Along the way, they interviewed over 80 people, including: a Lobsterman in Maine, the scientist who decoded the Human Genome, the Director of Saturday Night Live, the stylist for Madonna, and Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz.

All of the leaders shared where they were in their twenties, and how they resisted pressures of conformity to find their roads in life. Today Roadtrip Nation has ignited a movement on campuses across the country, where students hit the road in RTN Green RV's to interview their own list of leaders from across the country.

These roadtrip experiences are shared through an annual PBS Series, grassroots publications, and online at www.roadtripnation.com.

Previous seasons of this highly sucessful series introduced the music of artists such as Jack Johnson and Surfjan Stevens to College audiences nationwide, before they became household names.
